And ensure that respect for the environment and for all workers is Job #1 for management teams across Subsole’s value chain.
Beginning in the 2000’s, Subsole made the strategic decision to champion and encourage their growers to achieve the industry’s most rigorous certifications, especially around food safety. Subsole did this by first, becoming experts in the standards the most demanding yet voluntary, certifications require. They then coach and support their growers, throughout the application process, about what is necessary to receive certification. This effort is in service of Subsole growers becoming leaders in the critical areas of food safety, and ethical and responsible work.
GLOBALG.A.P. IFA is an international certification that ensures compliance with best agricultural practices in fruit processing.
Subsole’s producers, supported by the Sustainability Team, were among the first to obtain this certification in Chile, starting in the 2001-2002 season. Since then, Subsole has actively worked to ensure that all its farms maintain their GLOBALG.A.P. certification and incorporate new standards as they are introduced.
This protocol provides an excellent foundation for achieving other more specific certifications, such as Nurture and AH-DLL GROW, which are required by supermarkets; GRASP, which addresses social responsibility; and SPRING, which demonstrates responsible use of irrigation water. All of these are part of the producer audit program to meet our clients’ requirements.
